Our Gas Engineers are highly trained and experienced when dealing with installations of Hot Water Heating Cylinders in Huddersfield and across West Yorkshire.
Currently there are two main types of Hot Water Heating Cylinders. Vented and Unvented. Which you choose is solely up to you and depends on factors such as cost, space in your household as well as existing limitations regarding your existing central heating set up.
Many people ask the question what the terms 'vented' and 'unvented' actually mean, when it comes to Hot Water Heating Cylinders. We hope to explain this in a way so its easy for all to understand. Vented Hot Water Cylinders rely on a Cold Water Storage Tank or system located at a high point in the house (annually the loft). Because the water is flowing downwards with the 'natural pull' of gravity, some form of a certain amount of pressure is created this way. Once the cold water reaches the Vented Heating Cylinder (annually kept in an airing cupboard), it will be heated up and ready for domestic use across all connected taps, baths and shower outlets.
This is the basic principle behind how a Vented Hot Water Heating Cylinder will work in your home. Because the water will expand when heated, the water storage tank will behave like an expansion tank, in that it will allows excess water to return and allow any trapped air to be released from an outflow vent pipe.
Unvented Heating Cylinders on the other hand, do not require any form of Water Storage Tank - thus eliminating the need for allocating that extra space in your loft to accommodate it. Instead of being fed cold water from the storage tank which would otherwise reside in a loft, these types of Cylinders will be directly mains fed ( the mains water supply to all homes ) which is essentially water coming from a pipe in the street to the stop tap in your house.
This method feeds water at a much higher pressure than the way a Vented Heating Cylinder is fed its water, and hot water will be released at same velocity and pressure as the cold water does from your taps. With an Unvented Hot Water Cylinder, you will be able to enjoy hot water at a faster output from all household bath taps and showers no matter how many occupants are using the hot water. The other advantage besides getting hot water at higher pressure than Vented systems, is that you no longer need to allocate space to accommodate a cold water storage tank.

Power Flushing is a safe and easy way to increase the efficiency of your entire Central Heating System, including your boiler, and also to reduce your running costs by as it involves removal of debris and 'sludge' that builds up inside the central heating pipework connecting to your radiators. You may not know this but corrosion within central heating systems accounts for a huge percentage of all system/boiler failures and here at GDS Plumbing & Tiling Huddersfield, we can offer you high quality Power Flushing service in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire which will guarantee to get your Central Heating System working at Optimum Performance. essentially a Power Flush is clean water fed at high velocity through one end of your radiator to push and 'flush out' water that has been contaminated with built up debris and sludge. The dirty water is flushed out outdoors or collected into a suitable container and normally an anti-corrosive substance is mixed into the clean water to aid in the process. This process is also known as 'draining the system down', as we are essentially draining out the dirty water and replacing it with clean sludge free water.
Performing a Power Flush on your Radiators has a positive effect on the performance of your heating system. After a Power Flush, you will notice 'cold spots' will have disappeared on your radiators as well as no more 'kettling' from the Boiler (rattling like noises, indicating your boiler is working twice as hard as it should be). Once we conduct a power flush for all the radiators in your household, you can say goodbye to both cold spots and rattling noises coming from the boiler and enjoy a warmer home. Also by performing a power flush, you are prolonging the lifespan of both your central heating and boiler and preventing a much more costly dilemma involving a boiler replacement.
A well trained plumber or anybody who has experience with conducting power flushing can do the job for you, however in some instances where further tinkering of the gas line and other appliances such as the boiler is involved, its best to also get a Gas Safe Engineer out because NOBODY ought to be touching this aspect of your central heating system. In general, an experienced plumber who has performed power flushing in the past can do this job for you - this is why GDS Plumbing & tiling Huddersfield are ready and available at a moments notice, to take care of all of this for you. We have conducted numerous power flush services for clients down the years and know exactly what we are doing.

MagnaCleanse is an Advanced and highly effective Central Heating Flushing System that has grown in popularity down the years and, in some ways replaced, the need for Power Flushing altogether. MagnaCleanse collects Iron Oxide (Sludge) inside the radiator. It is widely been hailed as a more effective and faster solution to ridding iron oxide sludge from the radiator saving time and money for houseowners and plumbers.
We connect the MagnaCleanse Adaptor to the Pipework, in close proximity to the boiler itself (annually the same pipework leading to the boiler itself) and add a special anti-corrosive inhibitor. This solution aids the process. This adaptor, or filter, has whats called a 'Swill Chamber', a magnetic device which rotates 360 degrees and attracts iron oxide particles in the water. In just one pass, all radiator debris gets collected. In order to significantly speed up this process, a handgun like device called an 'agitator' (aka 'Vibra Gun') is used in conjunction with the MagnaCleanse Filter in operation. The Gun essentially disturbs the particles deposited at the bottom of the radiator, by 'rattling' and 'rolling' it out of its stationery position through powerful vibrations. This liberates the particles and see a massive jump in speed efficiency. Meanwhile inside the 'Swill Chamber' of the Filter, the magnet will attract all the liberated iron oxide particles thus cleaning the water in the process.
Benefits of carrying out a MagnaCleanse Flush include increased boiler performance, much more efficient heat emission from radiators and most importantly this saves time and money for both houseowners and plumbers.

Underfloor Heating (UFH) - We are Specialists in providing underfloor heating in Huddersfield and all over West Yorkshire. We have installed various types of underfloor heating systems for both domestic and commercial clients across the breadth of West Yorkshire and beyond.
One of the best things about Underfloor Heating is that its a highly effective and reliable way to quickly heat up the temperature in your home, allowing one to control the temperature in various rooms at levels of their desire. Also unlike Radiators, the heat builds up from the floor and rises covering a greater surface area more efficiently than a Radiator would and is especially useful in rooms with high ceilings. The other great thing about UFH is that you can install it in both old and new homes and have the luxury of choosing from numerous configurations to suit your set up. Here at GDS Plumbing & Tiling Huddersfield, we can help you make the right decision in the ideal configuration for UFH, meaning that we will guide and advise you on what we believe are your best options. We will take into account your budget constraints and personal preferences and propose a suitable UFH system configuration for you no problem.
Other Benefits of using UFH as a replacement for Conventional Radiators is that its more cost effective in the long run and rids the need of placing radiators along your walls - from an aesthetics POV, this is great. We offer two types of UFH: Wet and Dry Systems. A Wet System utilises your Central Heating System in that pipework is involved that will lead back to a Boiler. These network of pipes allow hot water from the boiler to circulate and pass through them, giving you a warm floor in the process. This is generally more expensive to install than a Dry System (Electric underfloor heating) but its running costs are cheaper in the long run.
Dry Systems (Electric Underfoor Heating) essentially involves the laying of high resistance cable or matting, which can be tailored and customised in size and length to accommodate the room itself. It is more favoured for smaller rooms than large ones because Wet Systems are more efficient for those and fill up the ground surface area with warm air faster. A bathroom, or a small kitchen for instance would do well with a Dry System but a large through-lounge in a home would be better off with a Wet System that utilises hot water flowing through pipes. Unlike Wet Systems however, it is more difficult to tailor and customise a Wet System installation during a refurbishment or renovation due to the fact that the ground would need digging and new pipes would consequently need to be fitted.
We are on hand to install and fit UFH , wet and dry and would be happy to speak with you in more detail about pricing and the various options you have. Simply give us a call or drop us an email and we'd kindly talk you through the process.
